Political trajectory
Antenor Orrego was involved in political activism throughout his life. He was among the founders of the APRA party. He served as a Senator of Peru from 1945-1948. His term ended in October 1948 due to a military coup led by General Manuel A. Odría, which resulted in his imprisonment.
Connections between both careers
Orrego's philosophical and aesthetic interests were directly linked to his political vision, as noted by Luis Alberto Sánchez who stated Orrego 'bravely embraced the cause of Peru's complete renewal—philosophically, aesthetically, and politically.' His role as a mentor within the Trujillo Bohemia also highlights how his intellectual leadership fostered political engagement among his peers.
